Green Gates Gifts, Furniture & Accessories opened its doors in the summer of 2006 in Gloucester Point, Virginia. As recently as March 11, 2010, Green Gates opened up a second location within the new Hampton Peninsula Town Center. However, this vision from Lee Ann Dusewicz-Kirkley came to fruition long before our doors opened back in 2006.
Originally, the building Green Gates occupies in Gloucester Point was a dry cleaning company. Lee Ann actually used to get her dry cleaning done there! However, the building was in a sorry state of affairs. It had to be stripped, gutted, and renovated when she purchased it.
While she was cleaning up sawdust, she noticed something strange. "I bent down, and slowly managed to wrestle free a little piece of paper from the floorboards. Printed on the back was a claim ticket for dry cleaning...with my name on it. I guess I kind of viewed it as a sign."
